Photography

The Photography section of Eisteddfod Guernsey offers a vibrant showcase of images capturing the island, its people, and its creativity – open to everyone from keen amateurs to seasoned professionals.

As part of the Eisteddfod Exhibition, the Photography section welcomes all genres of work – from landscapes and nature to portraits, architecture, and pictorial compositions. With no pre-selection process, it provides an inclusive platform for participants to display their talent and share their perspective.

Certificates are awarded to selected entrants, with trophies presented in each class, offering both recognition and motivation for future development. Entries receive personalised feedback – written for printed photographs and verbal for a selection of projected digital images shown on the projection evening – ensuring participants gain valuable insights into their work.

A visiting judge from outside the island, highly qualified in photographic excellence, judges the entries and also delivers an illustrated talk. This engaging presentation, featuring examples of their own work, provides inspiration and a unique insight into the work of an accomplished photographer.

Photography can be described as the science, art and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material.  Photography is one of the media forms that changes perception and changes the structure of society.

Meet the Eisteddfod Guernsey Photography Section Team Members:

Photography Section Coordinator:

  • Andy Weatherburn LRPS

    photography@eisteddfod.gg

Andy has been a keen photographer from a young age and has dedicated more time to improving his skills and experience over the last few years, gaining his LRPS accreditation from the Royal Photographic Society in 2021.

His personal photography covers a wide range of genres, but his particular interest is photographing people. Andy is active in the local photography scene, chairing the Spectrum Photography Club and has gained accreditation as a club photography judge with the Southern Counties Photographic Association. Andy also led the team which produced the inaugural Island Photographic Clubs Exhibition in the George Crossan Gallery in 2025.

Andy became the Eisteddfod Photography Section Coordinator in 2025, and 2026 is his first Eisteddfod Guernsey in that role. He is delighted that Robin Millard is continuing on the Photography Section team following his 25 years of dedication to running it.
