Music

The Music section of Eisteddfod Guernsey opened the inaugural Guernsey Eisteddfod on 1st November 1922 – some 97 years ago – and proves to be one of the most popular sessions within the annual Festival. Over the years, thousands of amateur performers – from children to veterans – have competed in a wide variety of classes from highbrow classic to pop. Many entrants have gone on to forge successful careers in music on the worldwide stage. The breadth of the Music section classes is deliberate to appeal to a wide range of musical tastes across the Bailiwick. A mini concert is held in each session so that musical participants and the audience can experience the diversity of the performances. The experience of live performing is as important as is the traditional competitive culture of the Festival and the resultant atmosphere is one of fun and entertainment. Good-natured support and camaraderie from all the musical participants always produces an enthusiastic response from the audience.

If you are a budding musician, a keen performer or a skilled maestro, please consider entering this section of the Eisteddfod.

Meet the Eisteddfod Guernsey Music Section Team Members.

Music Section Coordinator:

  • Katherine Wegerer

    music@eisteddfod.gg

Katherine took over the role of Music Section Coordinator in 2017 after spending so much time at the festivals watching her musical third son perform that she thought she might as well help out.

When she is not emailing, phoning and generally organising the Eisteddfod, you will find her playing tennis or walking her dogs on the beach.

Music Section Team Members:
Darren Alderton, Alison Castle, Claire Dawson, Marilyn Pugh & Sol Phillips.

New to the Eisteddfod? These FAQs explain how the Music section works and what to expect when you take part.

All members of the Speech & Drama Committee and Volunteers will be visible by their Eisteddfod lanyards worn around their necks.
